Of Quadrupeds

by Taylor Hagood

Goats I like best,
the pussel-gutted ones especially.

Their rectangular pupils
widescreen patches of night
in pools pale with caustic regard.

I have grown tired of overburdening them
with myth.

It is enough just to watch
them breathing amid dirt and hay.
